Victorian Mahogany Parlour ChairVictorian Mahogany Parlour Chair, with Maple Veneer, circa 1860-70. The provenance of this chair relates to the historic New South Wales property of ‘Gidleigh’. Having been stored in a loft for many years, this chair was in remarkably good condition when it was retrieved. Other than obvious old mechanical damage to the crest rail (the most likely reason the chair was put away into store), the original frame and upholstery were very much intact. Once the top rail was repaired, the veneers on the rail were patched and the timber work given a conservation grade clean. The upholstery received a delicate vacuum and some small repairs to the gimp; other than this the upholstery is entirely original and in surprisingly good condition. |
